Sterring vibration and clunking sound?

I drive a 1979 Mercedes benz 300d. I have recenlty replaced the upper and lower balljoints, had the steering aligned and wheels balanced. Could it be broken tierod ends that cause the vibration at high sopeeds and the clanking sound at very low speeds over small bumps?
