Quick legal question regarding apartment leases?
I've never used this before, and wanted to try here before bugging my attorney. I have a small issue with my apartment management. I am a college student, sharing an apartment with a friend of mine. We chose one of the more upscale properties in our area (Green Hills, TN), expecting to be treated well by a management willing to "talk us through" our first experience with an apartment. Sadly, we were treated worse. We were hled about things that most tenants were likely left alone about. And, above all, the manager had always spoken about our co-signing families in a very condescending tone. A month back, my father called in to get the rent amount so he could write them a check. Our leasing manager wove him a tale of their current "worst tenants", citing a number of events that never occurred. My question is, can the manager even speak to my father about our personal file (complaints, notices, etc)? My father is nowhere to be found on our lease. My mother co-signed, submitted her personal income and received a background check. Although they are married, the issue is whether or not they can release my file to my father, and on top of it all lie about a good deal of it. My parents also agree with me on this matter. Thanks guys, i look forward to hearing a broad range of opinions on this.
