Is it hypocritical for a Christian to play the lottery?
It seems to me that many Christians are more willing to cite verses of the Bible that talk about what is wrong with s than to cite Christ's teachings on the evils of the love of money. The famous line about the rich man and the eye of a needle aren't mentioned much in this country, but that is because Christians want to both worship God and money. The one thing I like about Christianity, which, incidentally, it shares in common with most spiritual teachings, is the de-emphasis on worldly things, focusing on non-material things, like a pure heart, giving, and God. Now, one can argue that a Christian who wins the lottery is more able to give, but I think the main motive for playing the lottery is greed. After all, it is hard really following Christ's teachings while living in a capitalism, a system that exploits the poor and encourages excess. So, is it hypocritical?
